Glowing tributes paid to Jamal Afghan in Muzafarabad ─ UN role stressed by Farooq Rehmani

Muzaffarabad 16 December,2011: To commemorate the 18th martyrdom of  Abdul Khaliq Ganai alias Jamal Afghani a function of was organized at Muzaffarabad Azad Kashmir and glowing tributes were paid to his great services and  sacrifices ─ who was arrested by Indian army on 14th December 1993 and tortured to death in the following night in North of Kashmir.
The function at Muzaffarabad was presided over by the Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani who while eulogizing his struggle and sacrifice for the freedom of Kashmir said that the Kashmiris would never forget his role as a front rank freedom fighter, commander, and leader who worked for the cause of Kashmir tirelessly from 1970s till his martyrdom. He said, “The ongoing Kashmir movement has a wonderful expressive and tyranny-resistant face, and therefore, will never fade way.” Pointing to the significance of the role of the UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon, he said the world body must initiate solid steps for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with it resolutions to save a nation whose over one hundred thousand human beings were slaughtered by Indian troops during the past 21 years of turmoil.

Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said, “Without Kashmir’s freedom, peace is a pipe- dream in South Asia, to translate it into reality, and for creating a congenial atmosphere in the sub-continent; it is of paramount importance to restore all basic liberties including the press freedom; repeal all black laws, release political detainees, end persecution and prosecution of pro -freedom workers and leaders; and finally trilateral solution of the dispute should be sought under the auspices of UN.”

The function was also addressed by People’s Freedom League’s General Secretary Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, Chief Organizer Muhammad Altaf Khan and Abdul Rasheed Mattoo telephonically from Srinagar. The JKPFL General Secretary said that the martyred leader was a great torch-bearer of freedom. His flame of liberation will never extinguish nor will the Kashmiris fall into the trap of their enemies.He highlighted the latest human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and urged an early resolution of Kashmir.
Hurriyat Conference leader Shoukat Wani also spoke on the occasion.
At the grave of the martyred leader in Kalusa- Bandipore, people offered Fateh and a meeting at the office of the People’s Freedom League in Srinagar a function was held to remember him and  pledge was made to continue the struggle for the liberation of Jammu and Kashmir.
